Advice for Overheating Hydraulics
If the hydraulic system is overheating on your mobile equipment, it may prove useful to scan the entire machine for the source. One of our machines was gradually building heat in the hydraulic system. It started at an operating temperature of 130 degrees F and increased to 160 degrees F. After the thermography scan was complete, it was clear that the auxiliary pump was failing. This resulted in the oil reservoir maintaining a temperature above 200 degrees. The reason the operators saw only a 160-degree temperature was due to a faulty gauge. (John Sosnowski, Martin Marietta Materials)

Unseen contamination present in new, refined oils
Translucent new oil is visually assumed to be clean but many times contains more contamination than the existing oil being replaced.  Find out why, plus the critical proactive maintenance step to assure the new oil is clean.
THE ANSWER

Eliminating Lubricant Cross-Contamination
Whether your plant is old or state of the art, eliminating cross-contamination is key to lubricant health. Mixing lubricants can cause oxidation, additive loss and changes to viscosity, among other things. These conditions can result in machinery damage by accelerating varnish deposits, premature filter plugging and boundary conditions. Watch this video to learn how to protect against this type of cross-contamination.

Beware When Benchmarking
From "People: A Reliability Success Story":

Beware when benchmarking! You will need to understand what is and isn't included in the benchmarks. It is essential that you compare like with like. Many times, people will strive to meet benchmarks only to find that they have been comparing apples with oranges and that their quest is impossible.
